Of gorgeous gardens, late in summer,
September has her fill right up until
Much later in October, when the frost takes hold and will
Cast the gardens into the autumn mould.
But until then, wherever you can
Take your fill of the thrill of hot colour,
Began a while ago as the long summer took hold.
It is as if prior to it becoming colder,
We are offered a late treat to meet our gaze.
Amaze at the wide ranging daisy family,
Including the vividly eye catching rudbeckia.
Plus other flowers remaining full of summer colours.
September does bid farewell to the hottest season.
But judging by appearances, only reluctantly,
For the glory of September is remember,
An array, splendid display of gorgeous gardens
As yet remaining in their best summer dress.
Rich, rich red, marmalade orange, shocking pink, plum purple all star
In the splash of dahlias in long hot borders.
What a blessing to find the summer long lingering.
Then when finally passing, September having had her say,
For thirty all too quickly passing spectacular days.
The Lord God, our Creator ever generous,
Moves us on to a later season also stupendous,
The colour of autumn not now in flowers.
The later season’s brightest colour is in tree and berry.
For our Father always was the Lord of creativity.
Lord, for all the gorgeous gardens of September’s hot colours. I praise and thank You for the experience of this month, which is so glorious in the garden. Amen.
